Grim Iconic…(Sadistic Mantra), the Tacoma-based artist’s second album is pushed by opposing forces: noisy abstractions and tightly structured beats, anguish and dissolution on the outdoors world and empowerment inside, apathy and catharsis. Directly playful and intent, pushed and flamable, whole fucking chaos blended into glints of broken-glass magnificence.

Born in Tucson, Arizona, Gallego skilled tradition shock as a baby after relocating to the frigid climes of the Pacific Northwest. He discovered solace within the Seattle punk scene centred round Iron Lung Data and has since remained a fixture within the underground group.

“I see this file as in the beginning a musical assertion,” Gallego says. “I grew up in punk and DIY subcultures, however earlier than that I had Latin music taking part in within the background via my childhood and each part of adolescence. It was surprisingly pure to include. I noticed I wished to go deeper into these rhythms. I wished to make a file that felt as experimental as a lot because it felt from the attitude of a Latino. Once I received a glimmer of that risk, it felt thrilling.”

Gallego’s influences for the album are huge, starting from British documentary filmmaker Adam Curtis to electrical Miles Davis to audio miscreants like Demdike Stare and Oneohtrix Level By no means. However it’s Gallego’s assured sonic imaginative and prescient that resounds the loudest. And, whereas J.R.C.G. is a solo venture, conceived and executed primarily in Gallego’s residence studio, he discovered energy in opening the venture to others, beginning with Seth Manchester as co-producer. The album options an enchanting mixture of supporting gamers, lots of whom cycle via J.R.C.G.’s dwell lineup: Morgan Henderson (The Blood Brothers, Fleet Foxes), Jason Clackley (Dreamdecay, The Exquisites), Jon Scheid (Dreamdecay, U Sco), Erica Miller (Informal Hex, Huge Chunk), Veronica Dye (Terminator) Phil Cleary (U Sco), and Alex Gaziano (Dreamdecay, Kidcrash, Science Amplification).

G.I.S.M. is a whirlwind of sound, pummeling, and cleaning. It’s a sweaty, thrilling aural journey. And like these reveals staged in basements you had no concept existed, however now all of a sudden discover a sense of belonging in a surge of dozens, in a break up second it’ll go away you breathless, exhausted, and desirous to repeat it once more. As any good mantra ought to.
